Green Economy Programme

We empowered participants to take on local climate action and green economy initiatives through 8 sessions of blended learning. These included site visits to local projects, online and in-person sessions.

Climate Action Course

Offaly and Laois LDC

This comprehensive course was curated for local development company (LDC) staff to help their work be resilient in the face of the biodiversity and climate crisis. With 5 interactive online sessions and 2 in-person visits to local projects, we covered:

  • Climate science and key terms

  • Nature-based solutions

  • Energy efficiency and renewables

  • Adaptation and mitigation

  • Relevant case studies

Community Biodiversity Project

Provided practical guidance and on-the-ground help for implementing Biodiversity Action Plan measures. These included planting a native hedgerow, orchard, and a wildflower meadow. In addition, we connected with Carraroe national school and delivered a number of hands-on workshops.

Bat Surveys

Woodrow

Conducting bat activity and static acoustic monitoring under a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with environmental standards. Deployment and management of static bat detectors and the execution of bat roost and habitat suitability assessments.

Circular Economy and Biodiversity Workshops

A series of Training Links workshops for communities across multiple counties. The workshops focused on capacity-building of sustainable and biodiversity friendly actions which Tidy Towns and other groups can implement to strengthen their local areas.

Returning to Nature Programme

This countywide church grounds biodiversity project guided parishes with tailored biodiversity actions through inclusive ecological site visits and practical reports

Botany Surveys

Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine project monitoring habitats and biodiversity. included 20 days of surveying fields, hedgerows, ditches and woodlands.

Sustainability and Art Podcast and Webinar

We explored how art and creativity are more important than ever to raise awareness, empower citizens and drive lasting change.

It centered around discussing the crucial role of creativity as a method for enabling true sustainability on a societal scale. Inspired by having the necessary tools to make not only their own practice more sustainable, but also the world around them.

Wildflower Seed Saving

Wildflower seed saving involved learning how to identify local wildflowers and how to collect, store and sow their seeds. Participants also learned about wildflower meadow creation and proper management.

River Monitoring

The Organic Centre

Through the Citizen Science Stream Index, we assessed the water quality in the nearby river. Participants were encouraged to take kick samples and discovered how to identify benthic macro-invertebrates on a basic level. This empowered them with the skills to monitor their own streams.
